The City of Durham has vacancies crew leaders; within the Water &
Sewer Maintenance Division of Water Management. We seek individuals
who are future leaders; dependable and punctual with a likeable

others. Professionalism when communicating with others using
problem solving skills to work closely with all staff and when
interacting with Durham citizens. You are expected to monitor
staffs performance related to work objectives and effectiveness,
conduct performance evaluations, document, record, and manage
operational data related to work performance and production.
Duties/Responsibilities
As an essential worker, this job requires week-long rotations of
Stand-by/Recall Duty (SBRD) which means overtime and call back for
emergencies which can occur outside of normal business hours and
during all types of weather. You can expect to cross train in the
various workgroups within Water & Sewer Maintenance (listed below)
in order to serve SBRD:
Due to the nature of the position Crew Leaders need to be able to
assist within any of the workgroups as needed. Initial interviews
will be conducted for all open positions not for any specific
workgroup.
+ Outfall: Clears easements and assists with manhole repairs and
inspections also respond to sanitary sewer system overflows
+ Collection Systems: Assists with closed circuit television
inspections, flush truck operations and sanitary sewer overflow
response
+ Excavation: This role leads a 5-person skilled and semi-skilled
heavy equipment team that responds to emergencies involving the
maintenance and repair of the Citys water distribution or
wastewater collection system infrastructure.
+ Distribution: This role is the lead of 2-person team that repairs
and maintains valves and fire hydrants within the water system.
+ Meter Services: Installs and repairs residential water meters and
registers. Diagnose and repair small leaks, replace meter boxes,
and setters, test and repair large meters (Meter Services requires
a CDL_B license as this role doesnt require heavy equipment
operations)
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
+ High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
+ One year of additional technical training in the area of
assignment and
+ Four years of equipment operation/driving experience or technical
maintenance experience related to assignment.
+ A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License with a
satisfactory driving record OR if in Meter Services requires a CDL
-B license as this role doesnt require heavy equipment
operations
+ If excavation, experience with heavy equipment operation
+ OSHA Competent Person, Confined Space Entry, & Trenching/Shoring
certifications, NOT required at time of hire, but must be obtained
within 1 year of hire

crew
