Working Title: Analyst Programmer I
General Purpose

Manage and maintain data used in support of analytical and/or research projects with the School of Medicine Duke Office of Clinical Research (DOCR). Provide training and mentorship to Duke community and fellow programmers.
Supervisor
This position reports to the Senior Analyst Programmer.
Essential Duties

  • Use SAS, R, or other statistical programs to merge, clean and code data for analysis. Work with study statisticians to prepare datasets and conduct analysis. Design and perform data imports/exports. Consult with statistician to gauge completeness of exports; modify if necessary. Provide training to study teams in database use and reporting. Attend study team meetings as needed. (50%)
  • Design, develop, and maintain databases and surveys (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics) for multiple studies. Assist and advise study teams regarding data collection best practices. Test and debug projects to verify their accuracy and completeness; maintain and revise existing projects to ensure operating proficiency or to adapt to new study requirements. Reprogram/modify the database as needed in order to collect all required study data. Provide training to study teams in database use and reporting. Attend study team meetings as needed. (35%)
  • Act as REDCap SME. Provide front-end support for REDCap users. Participate in REDCap office hours. Interface with REDCap backend support for change management operations of REDCap. Participate in DOCR internal projects (e.g., REDCap upgrade validation). Attend monthly DOCR and weekly team meetings. Attend presentations or other educational opportunities as relates to continuing education. Manage competing demands and deadlines from principal investigators/project managers on multiple projects. Maintain awareness of current assignments, allocated effort and project deadlines. (5%)
  • Plan and teach instructional courses on REDCap and data management as needed. Develop instructional and reference materials for users. Provide informal, one-on-one instruction as needed, both in person and over email or telephone. Provide feedback, mentorship and support to students, residents and clients. (5%)
  • Provide consultation to clients (investigators, project managers and research coordinators, study personnel, statisticians, administrators, etc.) interested in data management. Assist Associate Director of Clinical Research with project estimates, as needed. (5%)
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

    Education/Training Requirements
    Work requires a Bachelor's degree in mathematics or computer-related field, or equivalent coursework or technical training.
    Experience
    Work requires one year of programming or analytical experience with knowledge of several computer languages, programs or systems OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
    Skills
    Strong preference for candidates proficient in SAS or R programming.
