The GI Lab tech functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and is responsible for providing Endoscopic care based on current standards of care and standards of practice as appropriate for the ages of the patient. Effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other health team members. Understands the needs of the organization, and supports the missions, values, and management of patient care.

Reports to: Surgical Services Director -Responsibilities of the Position:Demonstrates proficiency when performing technical skills within scope of practice. Serves as "scrub" during GI Lab procedures.Follows infection control standards of practice to prevent the transmission of disease/pathogens.Assists in determining effectiveness of infection control standards for decontamination and disinfection process.Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic technique.Assures room is ready for case prior to patient arrival. Equipment and supply readiness, air circulation and cleanliness and disinfected.Promotes physical comfort and safety during transfer of patients and positioning and restraining patients for surgical procedures.Demonstrates competence in assembling and use of equipment.Assists in transporting and lifting of patients.Assisting the Registered nurse in the preparation of specimens and transporting them to a designated area.Assists the physician or nurse during the GI Lab procedure. Passes instruments correctly, often anticipating the surgeon's needs.Cleans and disinfects soiled instruments.Checks expiration dates on sterile supplies.Sterilizes instruments as indicated.Participates in stocking equipment and supplies.Assists in cleaning rooms between cases and at the end of the schedule.Keeps appropriate persons informed of pertinent changes in patient conditions.Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice and continuous professional development.Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignment measures of the department of Nursing.Coordinates between cases to ensure safe, clean environment and to promote smooth moving OR schedule.Keeps Nursing Director informed of physician requests and needs for new or additional GI lab equipment.Records quality control data and results in logbook.Other tasks and duties as assigned.Minimum Education:High school diploma or equivalent is required.Completion of OR technician school is preferred. -Certifications/LicensesBasic Life Support (BLS) is required through American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire. -Required SkillsCritical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. -Minimum Work ExperienceExperience as an OR technician is helpful.One year of hospital OR experience is preferred. -EEOC Statement:Maria Parham Health is committed to providing Equal Employment Opportunities for all applicants and employees and complies with all applicable laws prohibiting discrimination against any employee or applicant for employment because of color, race, sex, age, religion, national origin, disability, genetic information, gender identity, sexual orientation, veterans' status, or any other basis protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.Equal opportunity and affirmative action employers and are looking for diversity in candidates for employment: Minority/Female/Disabled/Protected Veteran
