Where the Chemistry Happens Our team is searching for a Team
Leader to work at our Morrisville, NC site who will be part of
BASF's Crop Analytics global laboratory network which provides high
throughput molecular diagnostics for quality control and product
development purposes to our field crop businesses.As a Team Lead,
you will have the opportunity to join a fast-paced high throughput
laboratory environment and leverage your leadership experience,
molecular analytics expertise, technical aptitude, and
problem-solving skills to direct fluorescence-based PCR analytics
in support of our Cotton and Soybean requestors. A desirable
candidate will have firsthand experience leading a diverse team in
a deadline-driven laboratory environment and possess both strong
technical knowledge and the proactive communication and project
management skills necessary to ensure success.As a Team Lead you
create chemistry by - Prioritizing, scheduling, directing, and
approving routine high-throughput DNA-based analyses of
agricultural samples using fluorescence-based PCR and
Next-generation sequencing to meet complex and variable customers
objectives and timelines.- Leading planning discussions with a
subset of our lab customers and translating their needs into
actionable analytical testing strategies using your firsthand
knowledge of quality control detection methods and their
application in high throughput routine environments.- Communicating
openly with other team leads to maintain a collective understanding
of ongoing lab activities to help ensure that all lab requests are
effectively prioritized between teams, analytical platforms, and
requestors. Working proactively to maintain existing lab
infrastructure and advanced instrumentation including robotics.-
Directly coaching and developing 2-4 direct reports including
establishing yearly objectives, monitoring progress and completing
merit planning activities.Working within a broader team of
scientists in a dynamic and fast-paced laboratory environment to
ensure completion of routine analytical requests. Flexibility will
be essential as you proactively adapt your routine to ensure
completion of the daily, weekly, and monthly workload within your
area of responsibility.- Applying your excellent knowledge and
understanding of the technical aspects of molecular analysis
including DNA extraction, PCR, Real-time PCR (Qualitative and
quantitative) and allelic discrimination/SNP genotyping to optimize
analytical workflows, validate new methods and techniques, and
improve existing digital tools and data curation to support
scalable analytics. Your formula for success Master's degree or PhD
in Biology, Genetics or Molecular Biology and 6 or more years'
related experience in DNA based molecular diagnostics, or a
Bachelor's degree and 8 or more years' related experience in DNA
based molecular diagnostics. Formal training in plant science,
agronomy or agricultural biotechnology preferred. Expert
understanding of the technical aspects of DNA isolation, PCR, Real
time PCR and allelic discrimination/SNP genotyping and their
practical application for diagnostic purposes across the
agricultural biotechnology development processes, including
management of genetically modified field crops. First-hand
experience optimizing DNA extraction and fluorescence-based PCR
analytics of plant matrices. Familiarity with the selection,
operation, optimization, and maintenance of analytical software and
hardware platforms including high throughput robotics and lab
automation. Knowledge of Six Sigma and/or Agile approaches for
process improvement and operational excellence preferred.
Demonstrated ability to expedite routine analytical projects and
deliver data to customers while ensuring external deadlines and
internal KPIs are met. Ability to develop robust analytical testing
strategies and manage project timelines and resourcing within a
lab. Prior experience leading a team and working with HR for
recruitment and development/coaching of team members. Able to
develop and implement technical training for laboratory and support
staff. Prior experience maintaining a workplace that is compliant
with safety, biosafety, stewardship and QMS guidelines. Direct
experience authoring and reviewing QMS documentation and
familiarity with documenting deviations and the RCA/CAPA process.
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and on global
virtual teams to achieve strategic objectives. Superior verbal and
written communication skills to proactively interact with a diverse
global customer base and successfully capture and relay essential
information. Experience working with a Lab Information Management
system, specialized data analysis software, sample tracking
databases and strong computer proficiency with Microsoft office
applications preferred.
