Responsibilities:
- Lead safety team leader program, coordinating operations team
members to identify and mitigate risk through inspections,
projects, and trainings.
- Lead observation-based safety program - evaluating, assigning
responsible parties, and following up on safety needs pointed out
by personnel through the digital observation reporting system.
- Develop projects and see them to completion to improve the
safety of team members and protection of the environment.
- Work with and assist the HSE Manager in controlling site
processes, procedures, and work instructions related to health,
safety, and the environment, and in implementing and maintaining a
management system certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
- Support site management in maintaining a positive and proactive
safety culture amongst leaders and other employees.
- Work with project managers who bring contractors onsite to
ensure that contractor management requirements are being met.
- Participate as internal audit member for ISO 14001, ISO 45001,
ISO 9001, and IATF 16949.
- Participate in cross-site activities, such as trainings,
cross-audits, and conferences.
- Work with HSE Manager and consultant(s) to ensure HSE
permitting is maintained.
- Serve as back-up radiation safety officer for the site.
- Facilitate HSE training as necessary, such as new-hire
orientations and first aid courses, and assist in maintaining
related records.
- Support corporate initiatives in coordination with leadership
and coworkers around the world.
- Support implementation and maintenance of corporate standards,
such as machine and chemical safety standards.
- Support process owners in understanding and meeting regulatory,
corporate, and local HSE requirements.
- Work with HSE Manager to develop strategies to ensure
compliance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations and
FPM HSE policies, working with site leadership to implement and
institutionalize compliance.
- Support operations leadership and the safety team lead members
in completing incident/near miss investigations and in reviewing
root causes, action items, and accountability.
- Support area owners with tools and skills for administering
HSE-related training for their processes.
- Be an everyday presence on the production floor, learning from
employees and taking into account their viewpoints to help improve
safety at the facility.
- Support the site in interaction with external bodies related to
occupational safety, health, and the environment.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety,
Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental
Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent HSE
experience and training.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with HSE programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and formal training in HSE principles
and management practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability
to effectively communicate with all levels of the
organization.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate teams and drive
change cross-functionally.
- Proven people and project management skills with the ability to
meet established goals and timelines.
- Strong follow-up and attention to detail in a fast-paced
operations environment.

- Ability to recognize strategic opportunities and focus HSE
resources to align with and meet critical business needs in
coordination with the HSE Manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional
Certification from the Board of Certified Safety
Professionals.
- Red Cross or AHA certified CPR/First Aid/AED Trainer with
current credentials.
- Experience and familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001
systems.
Miscellaneous Details:
- Position reports to the Site HSE Manager.
- Position is located in Durham, NC.
- Travel may be required and normally 5-10%.
