Job Description:

Icagen, part of the Ligand family of companies, is a biopharmaceutical company that partners with the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry on drug discovery programs that focus on ion channel and membrane transporter targets.

Icagen's facility in Durham, North Carolina currently has an opening for a talented scientist to join our team. This is a full-time position offering an opportunity to play key roles in identifying novel drug candidates and advancing drug development projects. The successful candidate will have experience and expertise with conventional and/or automated electrophysiological techniques. The work will be fast-paced and process oriented in a vibrant environment which is predicated upon continuous improvement where everyone is encouraged to contribute to improving laboratory efficiency.

Job duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to research and formulate experimental plans, independently execute, and analyze electrophysiology-based experiments, and communicate results to internal and external team members. The ability to work within interdisciplinary teams is a necessary attribute for this position.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates with MS degree in biology or related field and a minimum of 2 years of related work experience in a relevant biological research field incorporating conventional and/or automated electrophysiology techniques, or other automated assay platforms preferably in a drug discovery environment are encouraged to apply.
  • For advanced position, good understanding of ion channel biology required.
  • Hands-on experience using high throughput automated electrophysiology platforms, like the Syncropatch/Qube 384-well platforms as well as medium throughput automated electrophysiology platforms like the PatchXpress/Qpatch desired.
  • Hands-on experience using conventional patch clamp electrophysiology techniques preferred
  • Experience in assay troubleshooting, experimental design, execution, data analysis, and communication of results
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and willingness to work effectively in highly collaborative and diverse environment. Strong aptitude to work collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated track record of completing tasks within established timelines.
  • Data processing skills using Windows based software (Microsoft Office, Electrophysiology platform specific software, databases, GraphPad Prism, etc.)
