Description of Work

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $16.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)

These temporary positions will be assigned to the Department of Health & Human Services - Wright School. This position provides specialized direct services to children with extreme and complex behavioral and emotional challenges. Primary role of the YPEA II is to consistently implement a therapeutic behavior management system that provides for consistent, safe and therapeutic manage of children's often aggressive, explosive and externalized behavior. Training covers many areas and includes child development, to extensive supervision to protect children from infusing the development and psychopathology, complex behavioral programming, role modeling, counseling at the point of performance, on the spot decision making, crisis intervention, language and communication modeling, activities of daily living, transportation, maintaining a home-like atmosphere, and generalization of skills taught in education and treatment settings. Health care ranges from minimal levels of assistance, including first aid to extensive supervision to protect children from injuring themselves or others, and administration of all medications prescribed by child psychiatrists and primary care physician. This position is exposed to a danger element and stressful environment due to extremely aggressive/explosive behavior of children with severe behavioral disturbances.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, good managerial skills, good organizational skills
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with paraprofessionals, professionals, student and parents
  • Knowledge of practical application of task analysis and goal setting wit SED students
  • Working knowledge of problems and needs of severely emotional and assaultive children and youth
  • Ability to establish rapport and respect without undue resort to physical control and authoritative attitude
  • Ability to work and plan with clinical staff is assessing child behavior and planning and implementing treatment plans; and physical ability to manage disruptive children and youth without harm to students or staff

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or

High school or General Educational Development diploma and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
