About the Role: Credible is looking for an attorney with significant experience supporting online mortgage originators. You will be an integral member of a cross-functional team providing regulatory, compliance, licensing, privacy, and contractual support for Credible's online mortgage brokerage, real estate referral network and related initiatives. You may not have all the answers, but you know how to find, analyze, and translate them and then empower the team to put them into action. Responsibilities:

  • Advise our product, partnerships, operations, marketing, and other teams on a full range of legal, regulatory, privacy and compliance issues associated with the origination of consumer mortgage loans and the structure and operation of a real estate broker referral networks, including compliance with relevant financial services regulations (e.g., TILA and Reg. Z, ECOA and Reg. B, FCRA, FACTA, and RESPA), privacy (e.g., GLBA and Reg P, CCPA, and other recently enacted state privacy laws), data security (e.g., ISO 27001), CFPB examination requirements and procedures, consumer protection laws and regulations and risk management practices
  • Utilize your knowledge of and experience working with the rules and regulations associated with financial services, and real estate referral networks to support our internal business teams--
  • Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts with mortgage lenders and real estate broker partners in a fast-paced and collaborative in-house environment--
  • Provide practical training on legal issues, including relevant financial services and FinTech laws and regulations, and prepare and provide internal teams with succinct guides and checklists they can proactively use to guide them in their day-to-day initiatives--
  • Build processes to improve the company's operating efficiency and mitigate legal risk Education and Experience:
    • Active and in good standing member of a US State Bar
    • JD from an ABA accredited law school
    • 6+ years of legal experience advising/supporting mortgage origination operations for mortgage brokers and/or lenders required (a combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred but not required); additional experience supporting an online real estate broker referral network would be ideal but not required
    • Experience working with financial services, data privacy and security, and consumer protection laws and regulations generally, including those administered by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and state financial services regulators
    • Proven ability to manage people and projects in a growing matrixed organizational structure
    • Detail-oriented project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing projects to effective resolution
