Registered Nurse (RN) | Progressive Care Unit Location: Winston Salem, NC Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $1,766 per week Shift Information: Days - 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: 2/9/2026 About the Position TravelNurseSource is working with Cynet Health to find a qualified PCU RN in Winston Salem, North Carolina, 27157! Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU or PCU experience, CVICU preferred License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with general nursing skills and ICU skills Description: New unit opening on February 3, 2026. The unit will initially open as a high acuity PCU and transition to ICU by the end of 2026. The unit will have 10-12 beds. Once transitioned to ICU, the experience requirement will be 2 years of ICU-specific experience. Patient types and common diagnoses include heavy cardiac conditions such as CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath, dysrhythmias, and arrhythmias. Post-operative patients following CABG/open-heart surgeries and heart transplants will be cared for, with an estimated 2-4 transplants per month. Patients with external/temporary pacers and post-vascular surgeries such as AAA and fem-pops will also be managed. Initially, the patient ratios will be 1:3-4. Once transitioned to ICU, the ratios will be 1:2-3. Experience with Swanz and Impella is required. Wound care and dressing changes are necessary as several post-surgical patients will be present. Skills in defibrillation, EKG interpretation, post-arrest care, and cardioversions are essential. RNs will manage and pull sheaths, as well as provide bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP), continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), high-flow oxygen, chest tubes, tracheostomies, arterial lines, and various drips. Experience with ventilated patients will be expected once the unit transitions to ICU. Travelers will be expected to care for fresh open heart patients after the transition. Experience with LVAD and post-cardiac transplant patients is highly preferred, but training will be provided. No ECMO will be performed, but IABPs may be accepted once the unit transitions to ICU. There will be a CNA support present in the department. A unit secretary will be available once transitioned to ICU. A charge nurse will not take patients. Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager support will be available. Phlebotomy and PICC support teams will be present. 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist services will be available. Intensivist services will be present at all times. Resident physicians will also be available to assist. Remote telemetry technicians will communicate directly with RNs regarding issues. Monitoring devices will be available in every room. Participants may float to other units within the scope of practice as needed. The orientation will consist of two shifts on the hired shift. Weekend rotation will be every other or equivalent. Holiday expectations will require 50% of holidays worked during the contract. Scheduled shifts will either be from 0630-1900 or 1830-0700. Self-scheduling will be in place, with staff signing up first, followed by travelers.
