Description: This position is for a Med-Surg unit with 23 beds. The
nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Common diagnoses include surgical
patients such as orthopedic, general, spinal, and gender
reassignment cases. Critical patients are transferred to a larger
facility. RNs on this unit are required to read their own strips.
There are patient care technicians with a ratio of 1:12.
Respiratory therapy equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP is used on
this unit. Shifts are 12 hours, three days per week, typically from
7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Weekend and holiday shifts may be required as
needed. There is no on-call or standby requirement for this
position. Self-scheduling and block scheduling are not available.
Scrubs for RNs are black, while nursing assistants wear grey. The
charting system used is MEDITECH.
