Our best practices enhance performance and focus intensely on each facilitys critical needs.About the roleCBH Medical of VA is looking for highly qualified LPN's to provide direct patient care for incarcerated individuals at the Amherst Adult Detention Center.What you'll doProvide direct patient careAssist patients with ADLs as neededAccurately collect data pertinent to health of inmate including lab specimens, etc. Administer PPD prior to inmate receiving a complete physical examination by the facilitys qualified health professionalSupport patient sick call within the limits of licensure. Record history, vital signs and gathers other appropriate data for utilization during physicians sick call. Treat inmates with problems according to established policies and procedures and refer other medical problems to the appropriate clinicianAssist clinician with sick call or minor surgical proceduresEnsure physician/nursing orders are implemented. Use problem-oriented medical records system to chart using SOAP formatAssist with rounds in the infirmary (where appropriate), a minimum of once per shift and record nurses notes on all inmates. Identify symptoms, reactions and progress of patients on a periodic basis, chart and report problems to supervisorAdminister medications, including injectionsEnsure prescribed medications are administered as orderedApply knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in dispensing medicationsMaintain security while dispensing medications and be continually cognizant of the potential hazard of drug hoarding and trafficking among inmatesAccurately document all medications on the Medication Administration Record (MAR), including patient declines or patients off the housing unit at the time of the medication passUpdate the MAR as neededAccurately review MARs at each medication pass, identify medications that require reorders or renewals, and that administered medications are signed for immediatelyAssure medications are ordered correctlyMaintain neatness of the medication cart, medication room and other work areas, stocks as needed. Ensure that the medication cart is ready for subsequent medication passesMaintain accountability for narcotic medicationsMaintain accountability, destroy and properly dispose of all needles and syringesBe knowledgeable of infection control guidelines and use good universal techniqueImplement procedures for patient transfers to medical facilities, outside health providers, or transfer within the correctional systemPrepare regularly scheduled reports and special reports as necessaryParticipate in in-service education, obtaining at least 12 hours annuallyEncourages, participates, and supports safety program components including development, education, training, and communications regarding mandatory OSHA trainings and employee health and safety programsPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.QualificationsGraduate from a national or state approved school of vocational nursing.Currently licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in defined stateDemonstrate the knowledge and ability to apply principles of nursing careRecognition of signs and symptoms of mental illness, retardation, emotional disturbance, or chemical dependencyDemonstrate the ability to draw blood and administer PPD testsJob TypeFull-Time: Night Shift (5:00pm - 5:00am)PRNBenefits:401(k)Dental insuranceEmployee assistance programEmployee discountFlexible scheduleHealth insuranceHealth savings accountLife insurancePaid time offReferral programTuition reimbursementVision insuranceExperience:Patient care: 2 years (Preferred)Medication administration: 2 years (Preferred)License/Certification:LPN (Required)BLS Certification (Required)by Jobble
