Position Description:
KBI Biopharma is looking for a dedicated and efficient lab assistant to join our team. The Process Development Laboratory Assistant will perform lab assistant duties in support of Upstream Process Development.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Wash, sonicate, maintain and prepare bench scale bioreactors and glassware. Maintain stocks of build materials, track usage, and replenish parts as necessary.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and quarterly cleaning tasks on equipment, glassware, and lab spaces. Ensure all labs are clean, tidy, and trash free
  • Stocking and ordering of common consumables and reagents throughout the labs
  • Prepare media, feed, and buffer solutions for process development studies as requested by scientific staff
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory analyzers (e.g. pH meter, BGA, BioHT)
  • Coordinate with internal and external groups for scheduling of calibrations and equipment and facility maintenance. Provide on-site support as needed
  • Maintain established 6S workflow and identify areas of continuous improvement. Help maintain lists of equipment, spare parts, chemicals, etc
  • Perform necessary tasks as they arise to assist PD members in performing their studies
  • Represent PD on the Health and Safety Committee and ensure group is compliant and contribute to creating a safe work environment
  • Document all activities according to the appropriate laboratory procedure and/or KBI Standard Operating Procedure Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school degree or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in science, life science, medical technology, mathematics, chemistry or related field preferred
    • 0-1 years' experience for Lab Assistant, 2 years' experience for Sr. Lab Assistant, or other relevant experience in a lab environment
    • Working knowledge of mammalian cell culture and analysis or familiarity with any of the following instruments a plus: ViCell, BioHT, Bioprofile Flex2, BGAs, Osmometers, scales, peristaltic pumps, sterile tubing welders, incubators, bioreactor systems (ambr15/250, Cytiva and Applikon), pH meter, pipettes, syringe pumps
    • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
    • Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
    • Good interpersonal skills and communication
    • Good computer skills and ability to provide verbal updates and trainings to staff (Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
    • Must be comfortable working with chemically and biologically hazardous materials and must comply to all health and safety regulations
    • Able to stand on feet, bend, and move through shift; able to lift equipment and samples, able to push 200L barrels of liquid
      Salary:$22.00 - $29.00/hr
      Salary range provided per current averages and expectations. The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
