Position Information:
The Physician Assistant, Specialty - Cardiothoracic Surgery will work under the Primary Supervising Physician, all Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Physician Partners, and the Advanced Practice Provider Director, to deliver competent medical care to an age specific population including adults and geriatric Cardiothoracic Surgery patients at WakeMed. The position consists of weekday assignments, weekend OR call and rounds as designated, and night call for emergency surgery backup. The OR APP will work with the operating surgeon in a first assist capacity on a variety of cardiac cases. Endoscopic vein harvest competency is required. Experience with da Vinci surgical systems is preferred. The APP will participate in admission and pre-op consultations, rounds, and function as the on-site Cardiothoracic Surgery liaison. The APP provides orders for transfer or discharge as appropriate and communicates directly with the Cardiothoracic Surgery on-call physician during emergencies. Position to maintain the scope of practice to be consistent with the policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines governed by the North Carolina Medical Board, and any other federal or state regulatory agencies, as well as the policies and procedures of WakeMed. Understands the needs of the organization and supports the mission, values, and management of WakeMed.

Experience in cardiac or thoracic surgery is strongly preferred.
