In the fiscal year 2018, Duke University Hospital admitted 42,916 patients and had 1,085,740 outpatient visits in the fiscal year 2017.--U.S News & World Report named Duke University Hospital #1 in North Carolina and #1 in the Raleigh-Durham area in 2018-19.--Duke University Hospital is ranked in the top 20 nationally for seven adult specialties, including cardiology and heart surgery, nephrology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pulmonology, rheumatology, and urology.--In addition to its hospitals, Duke Health has an extensive, geographically dispersed network of outpatient facilities that include primary care offices, urgent care centers, multi-specialty clinics, and outpatient surgery centers.Duke Pharmacy Internship Program--Position Title: CLINICAL PHARMACY INTERN --Position Summary:-- The clinical internship program is designed to provide 4th-year pharmacy students with a variety of in-depth clinical experiences that will complement advanced pharmacy practice rotations. Interns will directly participate and assist in the provision of patient care under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.-- Position Description: Clinical pharmacy interns will be expected to provide pharmacy services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist including, but not limited to:-- ----- Performing medication histories and collecting relevant patient information --- Performing medication reconciliations----- Completing pharmacokinetic dosing and monitoring interventions --- Serving as a drug information resource --- Counseling of patients --- Performing penicillin allergy assessments--Other expectations of this role include: --- Participating in regular meetings to discuss scheduling, rotation sites, and provide program feedback----- Assisting in the education and professional development of other employed student pharmacist interns --- Maintaining professional relationships with preceptors, medical/nursing staff, and other employed student pharmacist interns --- Optional activities including participating in and leading relevant topic discussions, workshops, and attending conferences periodically throughout the year ----The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employed student pharmacists accepted to this position. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of the clinical pharmacy intern. Required qualifications: Current enrollment as a rising P4 pharmacy student (class of 2021) in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.
