Relocation Assistance! --Department Profile:The Cardiac Diagnostic Unit (CDU) is part of Duke University Hospital, and encompasses three different sites. These sites include areas in Duke Hospital (7200), Clinic 2K in Duke South, and Southpoint Clinic.The Cardiac Diagnostic Unit (CDU) is a cardiac procedural area providing comprehensive state of the art diagnostic service inclusive of echocardiography (transthoracic and transesophageal), cardioversions, and stress testing.Registered nurses in the CDU will have the opportunity to assess, prepare, and monitor the cardiac patient population prior to, during, and after stress testing, cardioversions, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).--The nurse would be responsible for ensuring appropriateness of procedures ordered for our adult patient population. This job function requires the nurse be able to recognize and act on potential life threatening changes of patient condition as well as multitasking, critical thinking, and working with a diverse group of other medical professionals.-- The nurse will be an integral part in interpretation of EKG's, including rhythm and ST changes, as well as be responsible for the delivery of moderate sedation and continuous monitoring of vitals during the procedures.--Work Hours & Shifts:10-hour, 8-hour, or a combination of 10 and 8-hour shifts available.Full Time: Monday thru Friday, 8-hour--or 10-hour--day shifts with rotation throughout the different locations of the Cardiac Diagnostic Unit (Hospital, 2K, and Southpoint). Rotating limited staff schedule--for Weekend day coverage and holiday coverage.--Occ SummaryIndependently plan and provide professional n ursing care for patientsin accordance with physician orders and establis hedpolicies andprocedures. Provide nursing services to patients and fami lies inaccordance with the scope of the RN as defined by theNorth Carol inaBoard of Nursing.----Work Performed--Plan, provide, su pervise and document professional nursing careutilizing the nursing proc ess for patients in accordance with physicianorders and established poli cies and procedures. Use professional nursingjudgment to individualize t heplan of care based on assessment of thepatient's baseline needs and re sponse to care.Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other lice nsed andunlicensed care providers.Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and actas team leader or charge nurse for a gro up of patients or an entire unitas assigned.Monitor and initiate correct ive action to maintain the environment ofcare including equipment and ma terial resources.Participate in own professional development by maintain ing requiredcompetencies, identifyinglearning needs and seeking appropri ateassistance or educational offerings.Act as preceptor and support thed evelopment of other staff and formallearners.Participate in the identifi cation of clinical or operational performanceimprovement opportunitiesan d in performance improvement activities.Perform other related duties inc idental to the work described herein.----Knowledge, Skills and Abilities--Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensedpra ctical nurse andNCAKnowledge of and appropriate application of the nursi ng processKnowledge of professional theory, practice and procedureAbilit y to assess nursing needs of acuteand chronically ill patientsand their familiesAbility to independently seek out resources and work collaborat ivelyAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationshipsAb ility to communicate clearly withpatients, families, visitors,healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and othersAbility to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursingplan of careAbility to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritizeinforma tion, treatment, and follow-upAbilityto use fine motor skillsCompetent in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirementsdesignatedby wo rk areaAbility to record activities, document assessments, plan ofcare,i nterventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient statusAbility to u se computer and learn new software programsAble to document and communic ate pertinent information using computerand/or paper documentationtoolsA bility to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patientsAbili ty to withstand prolonged standing and walking.Ability to remainfocused and organizedWorking knowledge of procedures and techniquesinvolvedin ad ministeringroutine and special treatments to patientsWorking knowledge o f infection control procedures and safety precautionsWorking knowledge a nd completion of appropriate JCAHO and otherregulatory requirementsPre-e mployment Physical Capacity Testing Required----LevelCharacteri stics--N/A------Minimum Qualifications--------Education--Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.----Experience--Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.----Degrees, Licensures, Certifications--Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
