Laboratory Operations group.Purpose of role:Under the direction of
the Director, Lab Operations, the Site Director has responsibility
for standardizing best practices across the network as well as
responsibility for turnaround time, cost per test, and other
Performance Pool metrics within their designated methodology.
Additionally, they will continue to be responsible for their direct
reports at their primary location. The role includes all planning,
implementation, operations and evaluation of programs, revenue
analysis, budget management, and human resources management
activities to ensure optimal turnaround times, quality and
profitable growth. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and
accrediting agency standards, including CAP, CLIA, and OSHA while
working closely with the Medical and Lab Director and other staff
pathologists.This is a management position responsible for the
strategic oversight and leadership direction; oversees several
functions; provides leadership to site supervisors and managers;
may also manage first-line supervisors and/or professional staff.
This position level reports to a member of the leadership team.Core
Responsibilities:
Plans, coordinates, and directs the
activities of the laboratory (clinical and/or support services
divisions) to ensure efficient, effective, and economical
utilization of space, personnel and other resources Maintains a
physical presence within assigned departments and responds to
requests for assistance; facilitates services, communication, and
problem resolution; serves as a role model for staff Plans and
develops objectives and goals for the assigned departments; ensures
development, implementation, and administration of department
policies, procedures, turnaround time, and quality; participate in
long range planning and development Assists in the development and
maintains finance aspects for individual departments; prepares,
secures necessary approvals, and manages operational and budgets;
coordinates all purchases of supplies and minor capital equipment
(for large capital purchases, works with the appropriate parties);
directs business practices to ensure timely, efficient, and
accurate patient results; takes appropriate action to ensure
services are within budget guidelines Ensures that all departments
are staffed adequately for the scope of service and turnaround time
(as allowed/approved by budgeting); acts as a resource for
supervisor personnel to help resolve human resources problems;
interviews, hires, counsels, and/or terminates subordinate
personnel; performance reviews and planning for direct reports
Participates in, promotes, and provides educational and
professional activities; remains current on technical, managerial,
and financial aspects for assigned departments; ensures development
and implementation of an educational/staff development plan; works
with supervisory personnel to ensure participation in
educational/staff development plan Develops and maintains
cooperative relationships with all personnel, medical staff, other
departments, and vendors in support of patient care; communicates,
gathers, and exchanges information; develops and implements
solutions to problems; initiates new programs Facilitates and
supports approved projects and directives, i.e., information system
planning/implementation, productivities, efficiency, and quality
improvement efforts Serves on committees and improvement teams to
coordinate activities as they relate to diagnostic services,
turnaround time, and quality assurance Works with projects to a
timely resolution and completes assignments according to agreed
upon deadlines Produces financial and statistical reports and
metrics Recognizes the need and responds in a timely manner, to
inform Management of operational issues within areas of
responsibility Develops, plans, and implements improvement programs
Consults and collaborates with other directors for integration
among sites, standardization, compliance and to capture advantages
due to economies of scale Ensures that a safe working environment
is maintained and that safe work practices are employed; ensures
staff participation in all safety, compliance and other mandatory
training Maintains advance knowledge of CAP/CLIA/NY requirements
and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards Accountable
for the operation of a 24-hour function, including responding to
emergencies, and attendance at meetings outside of working hours as
neededPosition Objectives:

Requirements:Must qualify as a Technical Supervisor per CLIA and
CAP as follows:
MD or DO with a current medical
license and board-certification in Anatomic, Cytopathology, and
Clinical Pathology or possess qualifications equivalent to those
required for certification; OR MD or DO with a current medical
license1 and board-certification in Anatomic or Clinical Pathology
or possess qualifications equivalent to those required for
certification.
Technical supervisors overseeing
anatomic or cytopathology services must have board-certification in
anatomic pathology or equivalent qualificationsTechnical
supervisors overseeing a clinical pathology specialty must have
board-certification in clinical pathology or equivalent
qualifications Technical supervisors responsible for anatomic
pathology, cytopathology, and clinical pathology must have
board-certification in both anatomic and clinical pathology or
equivalent qualificationsThe section director/Technical Supervisor
of a molecular pathology laboratory is a pathologist,
board-certified physician in a specialty other than pathology, or
doctoral scientist in a chemical, physical, or biologic science,
with specialized training and/or appropriate experience in
molecular pathologyFor other specialties, not including Anatomic
Pathology and Cytopathology:
MD or DO with a current medical
license and 1-year training and experience in high-complexity
testing in the respective specialty: OR Doctoral degree in clinical
laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science with
1-year training and experience in the respective specialty; OR
Masters degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science,
or chemical, physical or biological science and 2 years training
and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective
specialty; OR Bachelors degree in medical technology, clinical
laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science and
4 years training and experience in high-complexity testing in the
respective specialty Qualification Requirements:
Strong track record working in a
clinically certified or accredited (e.g. CLIA, CAP, NYS) laboratory
Extensive working knowledge of CLIA/CAP/NYS laboratory requirements
Familiarity with LIMS/LIS systems Strong working knowledge of
laboratory automation and instrumentation
Proven success increasing and
maintaining client and employee satisfactionProven experience in
process improvement within the laboratory functionExcellent
interpersonal skills with the ability to function independently in
