Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with the leadership team to establish and execute the bioinformatic strategy
  • Design and implement a data architecture plan for the multi-omic data sets
  • Automate data analyses
  • Lead the design and implementation of automated bioinformatic pipelines that enable solving complex biological problems such as understanding the role of microbiome strains associated with health and disease outcomes
  • Manage all bioinformatic projects and allocate resources to meet timelines and deliverables
  • Perform and oversee computational analyses of internal and external multi-omics data sets to support rapid evaluation and advancement of therapeutic programs.
  • Closely partner with wet lab scientists to design experiments and integrate computational and experimental data sets
  • Leverage major scientific and technological advances, including latest tools and databases for microbiome analysis, cutting-edge informatics platforms, breakthrough understanding of biological pathways, and functional genomics capabilities
  • Identify internal and external collaboration opportunities in the multi-omics space
  • Take ownership of maintaining and updating in-house bioinformatics algorithms as stakeholder needs evolve
  • Drive the translation of bioinformatic insights into laboratory assays and biologic hypotheses for testing.
  • Lead the development of visualizations to enable effective communication and interpretation of the data by internal and external stakeholders
  • Align with leadership on key goals and establish and implement plans to deliver on the bioinformatic objectives
  • Play a key role in establishing highly effective interactions between the bioinformatic team and the rest of the scientific teams
  • Help drive a fun and wildly innovative culture where employees continually grow and help others grow Qualifications
    • PhD in Computational Biology, Human Genetics, Bioinformatics or similar, 8+ years of experience in a role involving computational biology or drug development with relevant industry experience
    • Demonstrate a deep understanding of biological systems, and how bioinformatic tools can be applied for discovery and therapeutic development
    • Experience building and leading high-performing teams and individuals that includes Sr. Scientists, Scientists, and/or Engineers
    • Broad and deep experience with computational approaches for analyzing and interpreting data from different genomics technologies including metagenomics, RNA-seq, single cell technologies, spatial transcriptomics, long read RNA-seq, and microbial genome assembly
    • Exceptional communication and cross-functional leadership skills with a strong record of collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
    • Demonstrated consistent, exceptional contributions to developing products, processes, and technologies
    • A recognized leader in their field as demonstrated through patents, academic publications, leadership in the organization of scientific forums, or participation in standard setting and regulatory bodies within the industry
    • Demonstrated examples integrating microbiome and host genetics with multi-dimensional datasets to prioritize targets
    • Established relationships with experts in the microbiome field and actively monitor latest research advances
    • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
    • Self-motivated and flexible professional who can effectively perform in a rapidly changing, small company environment
