Director Linux / Unix Engineering supports IT leadership by
planning and championing the execution of broad initiatives aimed
at delivering value to internal and external stakeholders. He / She
leverages data, technical, and business knowledge to drive the
development of technical frameworks and solutions at portfolio and
enterprise levels. This position is involved throughout the project
life cycle with emphasis on the initiation, feasibility, and
analysis phases.The Associate Director Linux / Unix Engineering
will be a key team member of the IT Infrastructure and Architecture
teams who can identify business opportunities, conceive solutions,
work well with internal application and infrastructure groups (as
well as external vendors), build consensus and plans, and execute
solutions across multiple business areas. Candidate will be
required to demonstrate and grow your expertise in Server, Storage,
Database, Network, Middleware, vendor management and project
management. Candidate will have the opportunity to present to
application teams, business users and to all levels of the
organization. Primary Responsibilities: With oversight from our
Infrastructure and Architecture lead - serve as the subject matter
expert at a global level to provide strategic oversight and
planning of enterprise initiatives to ensure infrastructure
components are properly designed in alignment with enterprise
infrastructure strategies. Influences the development and drives
the execution of operating plans. Provides input with our annual
strategic review process (ASR) which includes in-depth cost
breakdowns, budget estimates, ongoing run rates and deal with cost
overruns. Work with our managed service providers to review all
cost implications, self-funding opportunities and roadmap alignment
within TGS. This includes a detailed understanding of our GIR and
BIR infrastructure refresh process. Provide oversight to our
operational budget and expenses on an ongoing basis. Reviews and
recommends infrastructure technologies to meet business needs/&
priorities and to align with enterprise strategies. Accountable for
working across the core areas of delivery for TGS in partnership
with the business partners, TGS leadership and key contributors on
the business to side to deliver simplified, reliable, and secure
solutions, avoid technology diversity, be adaptable for changing
business and be user focused. The role will have significant
influence in driving the infrastructure strategy Develops and
reviews solutions to ensure infrastructure systems and associated
processes align with IT strategy along with providing significant
input into key business decisions. Analyzes business processes
associated with managing and supporting systems infrastructure to
improve information systems. Provides guidance on technical aspects
of infrastructure systems development and integration to ensure
strategies, roadmaps, policies, standards, and practices are
properly applied. Develops infrastructure assets, technical
frameworks, and patterns to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and
improve availability and reliability for customers. Focus on
capacity planning across multiple storage platforms and provide
operational guidance. Creates reusable assets and frameworks /
patterns that enable the adoption and usage of solution blueprints.
Effectively integrates core capabilities with new technology to
successfully implement solution development projects and standards
definitions. Participates in efforts to set technical direction and
build capabilities in the engineering organization. Acts
independently or as a member of a project team responsible for
providing technical guidance concerning the business implications
of the various solutions. Validates existing solution architectures
and makes recommendations for improvements. Work with hardware
manufacturers, application development, and infrastructure and
business representatives to develop solutions for Business
operations. Analyzes business processes to improve aspects of
information systems and leads complex technical project reviews to
assess deliverables. Assists in technical plan preparations to meet
business needs and collaborates with cross-functional teams to
prepare technical resource plans. Identifies alternative solutions,
assesses feasibility, and recommends new approaches to ensure
optimal performance and to meet business needs. Produces detailed
component specifications to support systems designs and creates the
designs of candidate architecture to ensure accuracy and
fulfillment of requirements. Recommends technical strategies,
roadmaps, reference architectures, policies, standards, and
practices to ensure consistency and compliance. Design and
Architect framework for Capacity / Performance Management and
Analysis. Embrace new frameworks using IAAS, PAAS, DAAS, SAAS
frameworks and develop roadmaps towards these, including hands on
experience with Docker and Kubernetes. Develop Private and Public
Cloud application provisioning capabilities. Strong Azure
expertise. Point of escalation for all P1 and P2 production related
outages. Qualifications: The position requires excellent
communication and coordination skills, proficiency at multitasking
and ability to work with all levels of management. Bachelor's
degree or equivalent in Information Systems/Computer Science or a
related discipline. 12 years of related professional experience in
IT Infrastructure experience, server, storage, workplace,
messaging, networks, Service Desk. 4 years experience in managing
service provider relationships-preferably at a global level.
Extensive Red Hat and Suse Linux experience Configuration
management (Puppet preferred) Server hardware - Various Vendors &
Virtualization (VMware and / or RHEV) Firm understanding of storage
and networking components Cloud provider experience: Azure
preferred; AWS and GCP is a plus Scripting experience; Terraform,
Perl, Python, shell scripting Network stack, NFS, DNS, LDAP,
SFTP/FTP, NTP Security and performance monitoring and analysis For
