Development, Human Genetics you will be a core part our WWBD team
responsible for strengthening our research and development pipeline
through external innovation, encompassing all stages of science and
drug development. In scope for the role are all deal structures
ranging from collaborations, in-licensing to whole company
acquisitions. -This role reports into the Vice President (VP) and
Head of BD for Human Genetics. GSK's R&D focus is on the
science of the immune system, human genetics and advanced
technologies. Worldwide Business Development (WWBD) is part of the
Research and Development team and leads global Business Development
activities end to end.Key Responsibilities:This role will provide
YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career,
these responsibilities include some of the following.
- Core part of team to establish, evolve and execute the Human
Genetics BD strategy.
- Lead R&D and Commercial matrix teams throughout the entire
deal process. -
- Identify & source the most compelling external preclinical and
clinical opportunities.
- Lead the review of R&D stage opportunities to assess
viability and drive to a prioritization decision.
- Lead prioritized deals through technical and commercial due
diligence at pace to enable high quality decision making.
- Lead team to define the investment thesis for each
opportunity.
- Drive forward the investment proposal through GSK governance
and decision-making process.
- Structure deals and negotiate with the potential partner.
- Close deals and contract in partnership with legal, finance and
other areas of GSK.
- Develop and maintain an expert understanding of the scientific
and asset landscape and competitive intelligence to ensure
visibility to emerging opportunities and changes in the
environment.
- Build a strong external network including with biopharma,
academic and venture capitalists to partner in the most innovative
areas of science.
- Establish and strengthen the relationship with the potential
external partner throughout the scouting and deal process.
- Coordinate with GSK's Alliance Management team to manage the
relationship post deal signing to ensure value maximization of the
relationship.
- Shared accountability for developing leaders and capabilities
across WWBD.Why you?Basic Qualifications: We are looking for
professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Scientific degree relevant to pharmaceutical R&D (Ph.D.,
PharmD or MD preferred)
- 10 or more years of experience in the Pharmaceutical
Industry
- Experience in biotech or pharma R&D stage business
development, including opportunity sourcing, deal structuring and
negotiations
- Broad and detailed knowledge of all aspects of the
pharmaceutical R&D process from early discovery through to
marketed products, in addition to an understanding and expertise in
business development
- Proficient biopharma commercial/market awareness with good
understanding of key drivers that underpin commercial assessments
and valuations
- Strong understanding of biopharma deal structures and financial
valuation basics
- Previous Leadership experience managing matrixed teams
- Previous experience presenting to Senior level leaders and key
stakeholdersPreferred Qualifications:If you have the following
characteristics, it would be a plus
- MBA degree or other advanced degree in a related field
- Strong skills in representing business cases and driving timely
and smart decisions across complex internal and external
organizations
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with a high level of
agility
- Highly effective influencing skills in challenging, ambiguous,
or changing
- environments.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication
