Duke University School of Nursing Job DescriptionHR Title: Assistant Director, Communications and EventsWorking Title: Director of Communications and Events, School of Nursing Job Code: 3752Job Level: 14 SupervisorThis position reports to the Assistant Dean, Marketing and Communications Essential Duties:1. In partnership with the Assistant Dean, develop and implement a comprehensive and diversified communications and events program to reach key internal and external audiences about School initiatives, priorities, and achievements. 2. Develop programming consistent with school goals and priorities, with responsibility to lead high-level events including the Deans Lecture Series, the Harriet Cook Carter Lecture, and other programs, and identify necessary communications components and publicity measures appropriate to each event. Coordinate closely with the Executive Communications Manger on communications components for events.3. Identify ways to provide internal stakeholders with resources to participate in the storytelling of their programs, research, and activity, including developing templates, resources, advising and consulting protocols, and workshops on aspects of digital storytelling. 4. Create timelines and budgets for communications and events projects and ensure timely and effective delivery. 5. Supervise and manage the performance of web developer and programmer and ensure the productivity and quality of work produced by the content development team.6. Direct and supervise activities of firms, freelances, and other independent creative content developers.7. Ensure strong media relations coordination.8. Oversee branding and research projects designed to support strategic communications. 9. Determine fiscal requirements, prepare budgetary recommendations, and manage expenditures of budgeted funds for approved communications and events activities of the School.10. Develop strong relationships with the campus and Duke Health communicators and development teams. Collaborate across these networks and ensure cross-promotion opportunities are secured.11. Oversee the development of digital storytelling components, social media messaging, and other new technologies. Develop and rely on analytics and data to inform decision and make recommendations. 12. Support coordination across the Deans Office and Communications and Marketing Team by ensuring the Assistant Dean and the Executive Communications manager are aware of and supportive of shared and independent communications assignments and projects.13. Stay current on relevant nursing, health policy, and health equity topics and issues that should be reflected in or referenced in executive communications.14. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications Experience in substantive and logistical aspects of event management, including working with external partners for joint programs, promotions, and publicity. Experience in in-person events, Zoom webinars, and hybrid events. Experience in digital storytelling, with a strong understanding of best practices in print and digital publication. Education/Training:Work requires communication, analytical and organizational skills acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program. Experience:Work requires a minimum of four years of experience in publications, public relations, or marketing and four years of experience in events management, relevant to coordinate a comprehensive communications and events program.
