Position OverviewThe Associate Director (AD) serves as the key career coach and resource for students in Fuqua's MMS program. The selected candidate provides a wide range of services to enhance student career success and tailors' activities and resources to meet the unique needs of each student population. The AD also lends critical insight and planning to ensure student coaching and program needs are met and helps to organize others toward achieving these objectives. S/he facilitates career education and skill development for students in a variety of ways - through one-on-one coaching, workshops and seminars, small group sessions, and will collaborate with the employer engagement team to ensure understanding of employer expectations, provide team support for hosting career events, and to align career coaching and programs with marketplace needs. Topics span the career development process, including self-assessment, transition and job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, networking and informational interviewing, interview preparation and skills, and job offer evaluation and negotiation. This position operates within a matrixed departmental environment and works collaboratively with the MMS and other programs as well as CMC career services teams in designing and delivering these services. Because of the unique perspective gained by working across teams, it is expected that s/he will provide insight and recommendations to enhance cross-program alignment and leverage best practices to benefit all parties. Qualifications, Requirements, and Competencies EducationTypically requires a Master's degree or higher in counseling, Master of Business Administration (MBA) or related discipline or higher, ExperienceWork requires two years of experience in a college or university career services office or directly related experience. Strongly prefer4 - 6 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.The successful candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills and organizational ability, communicate clearly, accurately, and persuasively both verbally and in writing (including the development and delivery of materials for presentations), and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and alumni. The successful candidate should also demonstrate initiative, high energy, and an ability to work in a fluid environment with shifting priorities. Demonstrated career coaching proficiency and presentation skills effective across a diverse student population. Must be an adept generalist across student programs and career interests. Focused on results with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills in a service-oriented setting. Integrity and discretion when accessing and handling confidential information. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the willingness to learn new technologies, including career management platforms. Requirements Periodic travel when needed to attend relevant off-site events, conferences, or meetings. Episodic evening or weekend hours for programs and events. Continuously upgrade standards to maintain and enhance quality. Possess a sharp stakeholder focus, which include current and prospective students, alumni, employers, and institutional partners within Fuqua and Duke, and demonstrate willingness to listen to their stories, feedback, and suggestion.The following capabilities are a plus but not required: experience working with a globally diverse student population, distance service delivery, and certification in various assessment tools.
