Farrior, Inc. is a growing construction firm in eastern North Carolina specializing in agricultural and industrial equipment installation and millwright services. Full-time, Salary Exempt Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 5:00 pm (Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.) Job Description Summary This position is responsible for all aspects of project layout, design, and production of construction drawings and documents. The engineer will be responsible for multiple ongoing projects at various stages in the estimating, construction, and closeout cycle. Structural Engineer Coordinate with Operations Manager and Shop Manager to develop a project schedule and maintain communications throughout the project. Coordinate all material vendors with the Purchasing Specialist to ensure adherence to the project schedule. Manage project site logistics, including customer notification of work dates, site access, material laydown, crane access, and temporary facilities plan. Monitor project administrative activities, including contract terms, subcontract agreements, insurance submittals, vendor submittals, correctly recorded man-hours, and phase codes, and ensure the timely delivery of accounting-related paperwork. Track project phases against the project estimate and provide feedback to the Operations Manager. Identify issues with design, fabrication, vendor equipment, and related areas. Notify the relevant party and coordinate corrective action. Ensure that all work orders are on time and meet customer and Company specifications and quality control standards. Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, Owner Contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, submittals, and all other project-related documents, and maintain a complete and accurate set of as-builts. Represent JAF at project coordination meetings. Inspect/review project to monitor compliance with environmental regulations, building, and safety codes. Review and approve subcontractor and vendor payment applications and miscellaneous invoices. Notify Operations Manager and accounting of changes to the contract scope of work. Produce change order requests. Modify project schedule to include additional work resulting from approved change orders or owner-authorized T&M work. Coordinate monthly and final billings with accounting. Responsible for the quality of JAF and subcontractor work. Notify the Operations Manager, Purchasing Agent, Shop Manager, and others of quality issues. Responsible for adhering to all JAF company policies and procedures. Ensure timely project completion through project scheduling, material expediting, and management of material and document submittals/approvals. Manage the Closeout process, including the punch list and project start-up. Follow up with customers on all projects to ensure completion and satisfaction. Participate in JAF management meetings. Estimating Review the construction documents and understand the scope of work for bidding. Consult with clients, vendors, personnel from other departments, or foremen to discuss, formulate estimates, and resolve issues. Executes take-offs of construction documents. Obtains material pricing and bids from subcontractors. Prepare the estimated cost for projects using the company estimating spreadsheet. Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, make an estimate. Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or the computer database. Confer with engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services by tracking actual costs against bids as the project progresses. Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc. Visit the site and record information about access, drainage, and topography, and availability of services such as water and electricity, and other site conditions that affect the project cost. Photocopy documents and plans. Submit complete and accurate written estimates to customers. Competencies Proficient in AutoCAD Results Driven Detail-Oriented Math skills Technical ability Communication Proficiency - Good written and verbal skills Multi-tasking Critical Thinking Required Education and Experience Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina or have the ability to obtain registration through reciprocity. A master's degree in civil engineering with a structural concentration will be considered if the candidate is on track to become licensed within two years. Minimum of 5 years' related experience in the construction industry (agricultural/commercial/industrial). Minimum of 3 years' experience in estimating and project management.
