Job DescriptionThe Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for the Kubernetes services to support next-generation Duke Health clinical, research, and business applications. This includes assisting in the automation, configuration, optimization, integration, and maintenance of hybrid multi-cloud components in order to provide a seamless Kubernetes experience. The Site Reliability Engineer is a subject matter expert, who works with internal resources and vendors to use automation with CI/CD to advanced enterprise systems and technology solutions within Kubernetes; automate self-service platform services; on the DHTS IT Automation team to ensure successful deployment of applications and development pipelines using automation best practices. Required Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or two years of equivalent technical experience required
  • Kubernetes certification for OpenShift or other vended Kubernetes solutions.
  • Current certification(s) for at least one public cloud provider (AWS, Microsoft, or Google Cloud Platform)
  • Linux Certified Administrator Required Skills and Experience
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability and desire to learn new technologies and develop new skills
    • Experience designing, implementing, and operating resilient, enterprise-scale, multi-tenant platforms and services on Kubernetes.
    • Experience automating core virtual infrastructure (cloud experience preferred), such as containers, virtual machines, databases, networking, security monitoring and administration on Kubernetes.
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem solving skills
    • Proven ability to analyze customer requirements and translate into effective solutions
    • Experience with container-based and orchestrated deployments (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Experience working in an Agile/DevOps environment and Agile backlog management
    • Experience automating tasks using Terraform, Ansible, python, and PowerShell
    • Experience developing standards partnering with Engineering, application developers and administrators, and other stakeholders to select appropriate technical solutions
    • Understand network topologies, firewall rules, certificate management, load balancing
    • Infrastructure as code (Terraform) experience
    • Experience working in compliance environments preferred Work Performed
      • Automate, implement, and operate Duke's services and product offerings, with a focus on automation framework to produce infrastructure as code, and "as-a-service" functions
      • Automate, design, configure, integrate, and maintain automation framework and implementations
      • Design, implement, automate, and operate tools that enable developers, systems, and services, including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) systems with multiple component pipelines
      • Monitor application performance, develop and report metrics
      • Provide subject matter expertise and technical leadership, collaborating with the Duke community to create automation usage policies, best practices, and standards.
      • Collaborate with Operations to create and implement processes and tools to maintain and monitor operating environment
      • Automate tasks with Terraform, Ansible, python, and PowerShell
      • Produce and maintain automation architectural and data flow diagrams to document capabilities of platforms and infrastructure
      • Design and conduct platform testing, including functionality, availability, and load testing Additional Responsibilities
        • Assist with adoption of automation and cloud technologies by acting as an advocate, expert, and consultant of technologies to the community at large
        • Collaborate with administrative, clinical and research customers to understand needs and engineer automation solutions to meet needs
        • Create and update system documentation
        • Follow established Change Management processes
        • Ensure resiliency and recoverability of all solutions and platforms
        • Develop strong relationships with key customer management representatives and key vendors/partners
        • Provide oral and written presentations and reports to project teams, customers and management
