BD in Research Triangle Park is in search of a talented Senior Reliability Engineer to join our Corporate Computer-Aided Engineering team in supporting CAE enterprise wide. We have over 65,000 employees and a presence in virtually every country around the world to address some of the most challenging global health issues.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide electronics design analysis (vibration, thermal, reliability) using ANSYS software (Mechanical, CFD, and Sherlock) to support BD's Medical, Interventional, and Life Sciences product development applications.
  • Operate as the electronics reliability expert for the hardware product development teams regarding individual components, subsystems, and assemblies.
  • Use additional engineering tools (i.e., MATLAB, Python, hand-calculations, DOE's, etc.) and physical testing data along with simulation results to develop efficient electronic product solutions for product development teams.
  • Interact independently with product development and electronics hardware teams to identify options to bring to bear physics-based analyses to optimize part and product performance.
  • Grow Corporate CAE capabilities by performing independent research regarding electronic medical products' failure mechanisms to provide alternative materials, processes, and designs.
  • Maintain innovative CAE competencies in reliability simulations and design for reliability competencies through training courses, seminars, and industry conferences.
  • Promote and expand collaborative partnerships with BD's business R&D teams, external partners, academic institutions, software vendors, and other related organizations.KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. Advanced degrees preferred.
    • Minimum of 3 years of industry work experience beyond academia is required.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience performing computational analysis for electronics design and reliability. Ideal candidate has experience with Ansys simulation tools, specifically Ansys/Sherlock (previously DfR Solutions Sherlock) expertise.
    • Knowledge of failure physics for PCBA's and electronic hardware engineering fundamentals is required.
    • I deal candidate will be proficient in one or more of the following: structural mechanics, thermal analyses, computational fluid dynamics analyses, electromagnetic field simulations, and high-frequency electronic simulations.
    • Understanding of reliability statistics is strongly desired.
    • Programming/scripting experience, Python or MATLAB, is preferred
    • Knowledge of failure examination techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CT, X-Ray is preferred.
    • Proven ability to work with engineering professionals at all levels and to communicate with others effectively.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on providing guidance and insights.
    • Familiarity with three-dimensional CAD solid modeling software packages, preferably SolidWorks.
    • Experience in the medical industry is preferred.ACCOUNTABILITY:
