Summary The Head of Program Management Office (PMO) works to enable flawless execution across all Precision Biosciences programs and initiatives through the definition and optimization of core processes. These processes are the foundation of smooth project transitions from project start-up through maturity to completion and close out. The projects span discovery research through commercial launch for a diverse portfolio of genome-edited therapeutics as well as enterprise-wide projects initiated to support the Companys short and long-term objectives. The incumbent will launch a Project Management Office (PMO) within the organization, setting the bar for excellence in project and program design and execution. The Head of PMO is responsible for identifying and delivering projects that mature cross-functional processes at Precision BioSciences including project, program, and portfolio management, technology and automation, and team effectiveness. This role is a key position within PBI and is responsible for:

  • As the functional head, fosters an enterprise mindset across the entire community of program and project managers
  • As the program management center of excellence, provides specialized training, mentoring and coaching to program and project managers
  • As a highly experienced program manager, provides program start up assistance, program risk assessments and performs audits of active projects
  • Designs, develops, implements, operates and continually improves the enterprise program management system, processes and tools including analytics, risk management, user templates, outcomes realization, and reporting metrics
  • Acquires, disseminates and applies program management knowledge by capturing, documenting, archiving and retrieving the organizations program management experiences assuring that the available information and knowledge is being applied appropriately
  • Establishes and manages a program control center with appropriate tracking, graphic displays and visual aids
  • Partners with diverse functional areas to understand cross-functional inputs and interdependencies including, but not limited to Operations, IT, HR, Finance, Research, CMC, Regulatory, Clinical, and Quality
  • Matrix leadership and facilitation of cross-functional team workshops to map current state processes, identify opportunities and define solutions
  • Effective stakeholder management and change management for buy-in and integration of processes, deliverables, technologies and roles/responsibilities into existing teams and infrastructure
  • Champions a culture of transparency, appropriate risk taking and realistic planning
  • Well-developed presentation skills, executive presence and confidence in communication and delivering messaging at all levels within the organization Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
    • Advanced degree in the life sciences, engineering, MBA, or equivalent
    • 12+ years of pharmaceutical experience, with 6+ years of matrix program or project management experience within a program or project management office (PMO)
    • Extensive knowledge of the drug development process spanning from early discovery research through to commercial launch
    • Capable of quickly gathering high-level understanding of complex technical, medical, scientific and business issues
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence without authority
    • Excellent coaching skills and a talent for fostering a sense of purpose and belonging in various formal and informal settings
    • Expert skill in facilitating the contribution of diverse members as individuals and as a team
    • Working knowledge of basic cell and molecular biology principals is a strong plus
    • Working knowledge of Scrum Master, Kanban, Design Thinking, Critical or Event Chain Methodology is a strong plus Travel Requirements 10% travel is required for this position.
