Job Description:
Duties: Serve as a member of the Database Administration Team,
which provides database administration services for the core databases
on Oracle, MS SQL Server, and Sybase technologies. As an individual
contributor will work within a large scale environment, supporting all
environment builds, including design, capacity planning, cluster setup, performance
tuning, and ongoing monitoring. Will perform Oracle and SQL Server
database administration activities. Primary Responsibilities • Provide technical leadership to DBAs in critical and
complex database work and champion best practices in the design and
development of database solutions. • Ensure the efficient utilization of technology by
providing solutions to issues, balancing investment, technology, and
customer needs. • Contribute as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing
consultation across multiple business units and participating in architecture
and review meetings. • Maintain database architecture standards across major
technology initiatives. • Perform regular maintenance of the Oracle databases
including backups, restores, data pump, archiving, and review of logs for
errors or potential problems. • Regularly review space capacity and perform tasks to manage
space usage through archiving or increasing space. • Perform database monitoring and participate in providing
on-call support. • Design, evaluate, and perform highly complex database
performance and functionality testing. • Tactical responsibility for completion and implementation
of multiple major initiatives. • Advise on risk assessment and risk management strategies. • Perform advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning on
complex database issues on a critical 24x7 system. • Research DBMS technology and recommend changes in project development methods and strategies to architects and
management. • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education
equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology,
Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5)
years of experience in the job offered or five (5) years of experience in
Oracle database administration; or, alternatively, a Master’s degree
(or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering,
Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a
closely related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or
three (3) years of experience in Oracle database administration. Candidate
must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (DE) in database administration
of applications using Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Data
Guard, backup using RMAN, replication methods (including Materialized
Views and Golden Gate), and Perl/Unix shell scripting; DE in database troubleshooting, performance/health monitoring using Oracle
Enterprise Manager (OEM) grid functionality, and plan management; DE in
Oracle administration, including installation, upgrades, patching,
