Job Description:
Duties: Serve as Technical Lead on the Defined Benefits Database
Team within Fidelity’s PWI Business Unit, with responsibility for
providing guidance in the design and implementation of critical and
complex databases. Will serve as a technical resource across multiple
database platforms providing solutions to solve business needs. Will lead
the design of complex database solutions utilizing advanced database
technology design techniques. Primary Responsibilities: • Provide technical leadership to DBAs in critical and
complex database work and champion best practices in the design and
development of database solutions. • Ensure the efficient utilization of technology by
providing solutions to issues, balancing investment, technology and
customer needs. • Contribute as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing consultation across multiple business units and participating
in architecture and review meetings. • Maintain database architecture standards across major
technology initiatives. • Consult with business units to assess needs and recommends appropriate Database Management Systems (DBMS) operational and
warehousing methods and tools. • Design recoverability for highly available databases
including design of local and global failover capabilities. • Coordinate and automate installs of Sybase, SQL Server and
Oracle systems in test and production environments with different
replication topologies. • Design, evaluate and perform highly complex database
performance and functionality testing. • Tactical responsibility for completion and implementation
of multiple major initiatives. • Plan and coordinate project schedules, and track project tasks
with offshore and onsite DBAs to meet project deliverables. • Advise on risk assessment and risk management strategies. • Perform advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning on
complex database issues on a critical 24x7 system. • Engage with database vendor support teams in provision of
database service support. • Research DBMS technology, recommend changes in project
development methods and strategies to architects and management. • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members and
new hires. • Develop SQL code, review and tune existing stored procedures
for performance improvements and develop automation scripts. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education
equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology,
Information Systems, Mathematics or Physics and five (5) years of experience in the
job offered or five (5) years of experience in database administration
across Oracle, SQL Server, and Sybase environments (Sybase Database ASE,
Replication Server and IQ); or, alternatively, a Master’s degree (or foreign
education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information
Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics or Physics and three (3) years
of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience
in database administration across Oracle, SQL Server, and Sybase
environments (Sybase Database ASE, Replication Server and IQ). Candidate must also
possess: Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) in database troubleshooting,
including read shared memory dump, analyzing / decrypting stack trace, and
advanced performance tuning and query optimization -- including,
analyzing and interpreting optdiag, sysmon, spinmon, MDA tables, and DBCC
trace commands; DE in Sybase Replication Server advanced setup (MSA, Warm
Standby, Function String, Data Assurance product), as well as expertise with
Sybase ASE 15.x upgrade and Sybase IQ setup, upgrade and administration; and
setup of Heterogeneous replication between Sybase, SQL Server and Oracle
systems; DE in implementation of hardware replication solution using EMC
