Job Description:

Performs application database administration (Oracle) services -- SQL code review performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, physical data modeling, and development and engineering support. Monitors Cloud database platforms -- Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure -- on Linux and Windows environments. Provides database support in all phases of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and throughout Agile ceremonies. Designs and implements complex databases and business critical designs. Participates in an on call rotation schedule for production support, database maintenance, housekeeping, and installs. Interfaces with enterprise teams when situation demands.

Primary Responsibilities:

Diagnoses potential problem areas and creates solutions and/or workarounds.

Establishes database standards for operations, upgrades, migrations, and onboarding new applications and/or clients.

Writes clear, concise, well organized technical documentation to maintain standards and procedures.

Monitors database servers and responds to alerts.

Sets up and installs multisite databases using Oracle replication technologies.

Writes database monitoring jobs.

Automates recoverability for non-highly available databases.

Provides expertise to define complex database and data warehousing methodologies.

Ensures capacity management and performance tuning of assigned database.

Establishes project plans for projects of moderate scope.

Implements complex and/or business critical changes.

Identifies users and situations that may be hazardous to the system/network.

Defines security requirements and operational procedures to ensure compliance with security framework.

Identifies environment (operational or application) modifications to improve security.

Diagnoses and troubleshoots storage problems.

Assesses and communicates the impact of changes to existing systems.

Monitors and reports on the progress of change implementation efforts.

Assesses readiness of the new system for conversion, including routine procedures, system administration, recovery and restart scenarios, error procedures, distribution of software releases, distribution of data, and network management.

Develops methods for integrating products to work together -- customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience performing application database administration in a financial services environment.

Or, alternatively, Masters degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience in the job offered or one (1) year of experience performing application database administration in a financial services environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

Demonstrated Experience (DE) setting up, installing, and managing Oracle replication technologies -- Oracle GoldenGate (Active-Active and Active/Passive) and Oracle Data Guard; and performing Automatic Storage Management/Replication using Oracle ASM.

DE performing database instance, query tuning, and troubleshooting real-time mission critical database applications, using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c and complex queries; and collaborating with enterprise infrastructure teams to diagnose end to end DB tech stack performance issues.

DE performing database architecture -- designing physical and logical data models, capacity planning, indexing, partitioning, archiving, and compression -- using AWR, ASH, and ADDM; designing and implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) strategies, using TOAD, SQL Developer, and SQL*Loader; performing UNIX shell scripting for job automation; and writing database monitoring jobs in PL/SQL.

DE designing and implementing highly resilient and performing Oracle database platforms, using Oracle RAC or Exadata database administration.
