Position Description:

Installs, configures, upgrades, and maintains IBM Database 2 (DB2) and related products within a Z Series Operating System environment. Resolves production DB2 issues using DF32 monitoring tools -- IBM Database 2 Performance Monitor (DB2PM), CA Insight, Sysview Performance Management, Omegamon, and Detector. Supports high throughput Online Transactional Processing (OLTP) and batch applications, using application development and debugging tools -- Data Studio and Visual Explain. Provides analysis leadership on complex systems analysis projects, often across subsystems and companies. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Designs, documents, and deploys software solutions in a mainframe environment.

Provides advanced support for complex technical problems reported by customers and technical teams.

Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.

Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology initiatives.

Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several

divisional initiatives.

Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Participates in periodic Disaster Recovery tests.

Participates in the evaluation, selection, and piloting of new technologies.

Trains and mentors junior team members on database management systems.

Acts as an interface between the team and other technical teams -- coordinating upgrades, projects, and deliverables.

Modifies existing databases and database management systems.

Collaborates with programmers and analysts to implement changes.

Develops methods for integrating products.

Customizes commercial databases to fit specific needs.

Advises senior management on technical strategy.

Works with other teams to evolve standards and best practices for systems analysis processes.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or five (5) years of experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting mainframe applications.

Or, alternatively, Masters degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting mainframe applications.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

Demonstrated Expertise (DE) building and configuring new DB2 environments on mainframe operating system, using SMPE, ISPF, JCL, REXX, SQL, JES2, TSO, MVS, VSAM, ASSEMBLER, RACF, and DB2 Connect.

DE provisioning, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting DBA usability tools -- CA/Broadcom Tools, SYSVIEW, Omegamon, Guardium, and OPTIM data masking tool.

DE performing IBM WebSphere replication product support; provisioning replication infrastructure, using IBM QREP and CDC; upgrading existing replication environments to new versions on mainframe; troubleshooting replication related issues, using SMPE, ISPF, JCL, REXX, and SQL.

DE performing setup and support of Disaster Recovery (DR) tests for DB2 z/OS, Replication; and supporting software products.
